Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea, caused when the soft tissue to the back of the throat relaxes when you’re sleeping and restricts the airway. As airflow stops, the oxygen level in the blood plummets, causing your brain to spur on the breathing process. The result? Gasping and chocking as you stop-and-start breathing throughout the night.
This destructive pattern disrupts the sleep cycle, prompting it to reset several times throughout the span of the night. This not only deprives you of a good night’s sleep, it also impacts how you feel the next day. Worst of all, it can lead to chronic health conditions and can even be fatal if left untreated in the most severe cases.
